Davy is the lowest thing in Sky Dome City. A death brand marks him a Gray Core, the rank that cannot power a mech. On the night the beast tide rises he hides inside a scrapped Iron Guard, and his dead core flickers awake. A captain cuts the beast down and tells him he is not a Gray Core. He hands Davy a trial anyway. Davy lights a one star mech and wins the squad's bet. Every time he pilots, the crack on his chest grows deeper, and the man who could answer him owns the whole city.
